This service is provider by employers for their employees and/or family members when something is happening that affects the employee’s performance on the job. In some cases, an employee can self-select using their EAP services. Many employers provide EAP services directly through insurance companies, like ComPsych, DoveTail, and Value Options, for which I am a provider. Your HR Department, or a review of your benefits package will tell you how your employer provides EAP services, if they do. Some provide the EAP services in house.
Problem exploration and definition is always part of the EAP process, and then I draw on my extensive experience and resources to assist the employee in developing a plan for resolving the issues that are creating the problem. Often the problem relates to relationship issues, alcohol and/or drug abuse, parent/child issues at various ages and stages, as well as emotional and mental health issues.
EAP services are usually short term and may refer the employee or their family member to another source for specialized services. Sometime the person for the first time finds what is really happening in their life that is causing the conflicts/problems and gets the help to change. EAP almost always improves the quality of life of the employee and their family.
I enjoy providing EAP services as the process is always toward positive resolutions for the employee. The EAP services are provided under the same confidentially and ethical standards of all service I provide as an LCSW. If you are in need of EAP services, feel free to contact me and I will help you find what is available to you through your employer. 312-661-0630 or e-mail barbarachamberlain@sbcglobal.net
